How do you intend to represent your characters and locations in your film opening?
The genre of the film i'm making is romantic comedy. this will therefore influence my decisions on how the characters will be represented, the locations i chose and the general mood of the clip. The mise-en-scene will also be influenced by the genre; the props, characters, lighting, costumes will have a light, bubbly atmosphere as this will mean that i have conformed to the general stereotype of romantic comedies.
Romantic comedies usually have scenes in atleast one iconic place or in a big city e.g. London, New York. The locations we decided to film in as a group are also symbollic as the opening title sequence will be filmed in London. By doing so, the genre will become a little more obvious once the characters, props, costumes (mise-en-scene) are in place.
The main character in my film opening will be walking through London, and this gives me an opportunity to add effect to the enigma code. This is because the audience will watch the film opening and hopefully want to watch more to find out where she's going and what she's up to. The main purpose of enigma codes is to create mystery.
After watching the film opening, the audience usually begin to expect certain things to happen and this links to stereotypes. In this case the audience will identify the genre and expect a typical narrative theory. Vladimir Propp had a theory that movies tend to have a hero, a villain, a princess, princess' father, the donor, the false hero. These are the characters that the audience usually expect and are very traditional.
Another narrative theory that was created is this: Equilibrium, disruption, recognition of disruption, the attempt to repair and then new equilibrium. This shows that many movies have had this type of narrative for there to be a theory about it.
Overall, as a group we decided that we will generally conform to the genre.
